Mercury's atom and how to draw it
In this video, Mercury has 80 protons, 121 neutrons, 80 electrons, and 6 valence shells.
First thing you want to do is make a big circle and that's your nucleus. The nucleus holds all the protons and the neutrons are kept in, so all 80 protons and 121 neutrons are in the nucleus. In your nucleus you want to put your symbol in the middle. Mercury's symbol is Hg, so put Hg in your nucleus to represent your element.
Then you want to make 6 cirlces around your nucleus and thats going to be your valence shells. Your valence shells are the outer most shell on your atom, and they will hold the valence electrons.
Your final step is to add your valence electrons. Valence electrons determines how Mercury ( or an atom) reacts to an chemical reaction. You should have 80 electrons on your valence shells. Now you have made a Mercury atom!
